Nelson Nkari's profileAbout the firm
A law firm with technology law at the centre of its practice, and legal support for the businesses and people behind it.
Nelson Nkari & Company Advocates was founded in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2022. We advise individuals, growing businesses and institutions on the legal decisions that affect their work, investments and personal affairs. Technology law is a defining part of our practice, supported by experience in commercial transactions, property and dispute resolution.
Our clients include technology businesses, established enterprises and organisations adopting digital systems, as well as individuals seeking advice on property, family and estate matters. We take time to understand the circumstances behind an instruction. That context helps us identify the legal issues that deserve attention and explain the options in terms our clients can use.
The firm brings together advocates with complementary experience in technology, commerce and private client work. Our Managing Partner, Nelson Nkari, combines legal qualifications with hands-on software engineering and cybersecurity experience. Partner Ruth Kavithe contributes commercial, conveyancing, family and succession expertise alongside her work in technology contracts and data protection.
Our technology-law focus
A software contract governs a service that must work in practice. A privacy policy needs to reflect how information is collected, shared and stored. Our technology-law advice draws on experience with digital systems as well as the legal obligations surrounding them, helping clients bring technical decisions and contractual responsibilities into the same conversation.
We advise on SaaS and software licensing, service-level agreements, data protection programmes and impact assessments, cross-border data transfers, cybersecurity, intellectual property and AI governance. For founders and businesses bringing a product to market, we also support funding agreements, confidentiality arrangements, supplier negotiations and regulatory compliance. Our aim is to help clients make considered decisions before risks become disputes.
Explore technology lawAlongside technology law, our practice covers corporate and commercial law, real estate and conveyancing, litigation and dispute resolution, intellectual property, employment, and family and succession matters. We help clients put sound agreements in place, meet governance and compliance obligations, protect their assets and manage the legal consequences of change.
Clients regularly instruct us on contract drafting and review, data protection, property transactions, corporate governance and compliance, legal opinions, litigation and estate planning. The scope of each engagement is agreed around the matter itself, with support available for a specific transaction or through an ongoing advisory relationship.
We begin with a conversation, in person or online, about your objectives, concerns and timing. After reviewing the available information, we explain the legal and commercial considerations and agree the next steps with you. Instructions, scope and fees are settled before we proceed.
During an engagement, we keep you informed about progress and the decisions that need your attention. Technology supports our organisation of matters and documents, while responsibility for your advice stays with the advocates handling it. We treat client information with discretion and help you understand any continuing obligations when a matter is completed.
We discuss your objectives, circumstances, timeline and concerns to establish what your matter requires.
We examine the legal and commercial considerations, explain the available approaches and recommend a practical course of action.
We draft, negotiate, file or represent you as required, with clear communication about progress and next steps.
We provide continuing advice to help you manage obligations, anticipate risks and respond to changing circumstances.
